*The”Beauty Play of the Week” was created to highlight some of the plays which showcase the beauty of the Griffins on-ice play during their 30th anniversary season.
Last week, the Grand Rapids Griffins made history by having the best start to a season, 6-0, in franchise history, taking down the Manitoba Moose, 4-0, and the Iowa Wild, 4-3.
On Friday, October 24, 2025, goaltender Sebastian Cossa earned his first shutout, 4-0, of the season, stopping all 30 shots the Manitoba Moose threw on net.
The Griffins then traveled to Iowa to take on the Wild for a mid-week romp that did not disappoint. Well, Wild fans may have left with a bitter taste in their mouth after Griffins goaltender Michal Postava stopped all three shots in the shootout to help deliver the Griffins the 4-3 win.
Nate Danielson scored the lone shootout goal.
Grand Rapids Captain Dominik Shine’s phenomenal defensive style of play in overtime helped the Griffins push extra time to a shootout.
Which is why he earns the play of the week for October 22-28, 2025.
Three-on-three overtime hockey tends to be fast paced and skillful affair. Grit and hard hits tend to take a backseat to rushes and clearing attempts. When they do make an appearance, it fills the crowd with delight.
During overtime, Shine chased down Ben Gleason and dumped him behind the net to prevent the Wild from gaining positive momentum. This allowed the Griffins to own possession at a pivotal time. It also left Iowa without a man for a few seconds while he collected himself.
And, a few seconds later, when the Griffins lost the puck, Shine was able to rush in and break up a play, allowing Grand Rapids to maintain control of the rest of overtime.
