We've had two weeks of thrilling hockey thanks to the 13-1-0-1 Grand Rapids Griffins. Yes, you read that right. The Griffins finally lost a game in regulation. But it took until Friday, November 21, 2025, when the Charlotte Checkers came to Van Andel Arena.

Also during those two weeks, the Griffins had two big overtime wins against out-of-division opponents, the Checkers (2-1) and the Toronto Marlies (3-2). In case fans were not entertained by overtime wins, Grand Rapids threw in a massive 10-1 win over the Texas Stars on Tuesday, November 25, 2025. A lovely way to kick off the Thanksgiving holiday, I must say.

Obviously, these games provided many beautiful plays that blessed the eyeballs of fans everywhere. Honestly, it was quite hard to pick from the array of goodies which was laid out before us.

After much deliberation, I finally settled on both game-winning overtime goals from Amadeus Lombardi on November 12 and lan Mitchell on November 22. To add some sprinkles on top, both were their first goals of the 2025-26 season.

Amadeus Lombardi’s Goal

The Beauty of Lombardi's goal stems from the work he put into the entire play. Especially on the defensive side of things. Outside of Lombardi's breakaway that led to the goal, the highlight of this play was watching him apply incredible amounts of pressure on Toronto’s captain Logan Shaw. It was hard for Shaw to maintain possession, and he quickly lost an open lane. On top of that, Lombardi's pressure frazzled the Marlies, as they couldn't complete anything they were trying to draw up. This ultimately led to Lombardi being able to descend upon a loose puck and take off before scoring.

lan Mitchell’s Goal

Tyler Angle provided the bulk of the beauty on Mitchell's overtime goal. Fans finally got to see the skilled offensive upside that angle brings to every team he is on. There is a reason why many have nicknamed him “Dangle Angle” or “ Tyler Dangles,” and it was on display during this play.

The way Angle is able to glide in a semi-circle, guiding the puck around the net without lifting his stick, is absolutely beautiful. Especially since his quick and smooth movements pulled attention away from Mitchell, allowing him to set up near the doorstep and fire into the open net upon receiving the puck.
