Beauty Plays of the Week : April 2026

Each Wednesday during the season, “Graced By Rain” awards a “Beauty Play of the Week” from the past week of Grand Rapids Griffins games. Some are goals, some are saves, and some are hits. While each is different, they all provided an extra element of beauty to an already beautiful sport.
Below are the plays from April 2026.
Eddie Genborg’s First AHL Goal
Awarded: April 8, 2026
There is a lot to love about the play leading up to Eddie Genborg’s first AHL goal on April 4, 2026. It all started with great board work by Anton Johansson behind Michal Postava, which allowed John Leonard to smoothly move the puck through the neutral zone. Then, Johansson puts on both an offensive and defensive display in the offensive zone by unleashing solid passing and drawing attention away from Leonard, who unleashed a slightly filthy pass to Genborg before finding the back of the net.
Alex Doucet’s Sneak Attack Goal
Awarded: April 15, 2026
On April 11, forward Alex Doucet scored his seventh goal of the season 2:16 into the first period against the Rockford IceHogs. What I love about this goal is the way Doucet was able to sneak into the slot undetected before launching a shot past Olivier Rodrigue. It highlights one of Doucet’s greatest assets: stealth.
Jakub Rychlovsky’s Crease Goal
Awarded: April 22, 2026
Jakub Rychlovsky had a two goal night in Grand Rapids’ massive 8-0 win over the Milwaukee Admirals on April 17, 2026. His first goal of the night was a thing of beauty.
The way Rychlovsky effortlessly skated through the crease while keeping a tiny step ahead of Admirals'goaltender Matt Murray allowed this goal to come to fruition. Murray wasn't able to have free range with his left arm, allowing Rychlovsky to find the back of the net.
It’s truly one of my favorite plays of the 2025-26 regular season.
